On April 27 this year, Wuhan City's major projects in the second quarter of 2022 started construction at the site, and the technical transformation of the Aoteneng electric vehicle platform with a total investment of over 6.4 billion yuan was officially launched.

At present, this super factory is completed and put into operation. As one of SAIC-GM's 70 billion yuan investment in new technologies in electrification and intelligent networking, the Wuhan Autoneng Gigafactory is built around the concepts of technology, greenness, and safety. It has the world's leading high-precision processing and assembly technology, high-standard quality control management, and highly flexible co-line production capabilities.

When walking into the Wuhan Autoneng Gigafactory, there are almost no operators visible, and key production operations are basically completed by high-precision robotic arms. Staff told reporters that for the first time, the module online work station in the battery workshop integrated "robot, 3D point cloud vision, and force control perception" technologies. The installation accuracy can reach 0.2mm, ensuring zero damage to the battery during the assembly process. “The glue coating, lid closing, and tightening processes of the battery pack are all automatically completed by robots based on digital twin technology, and the installation process achieves a measurement accuracy of less than 0.1mm,” he said.

The factory’s electric drive workshop machining line realizes the entire process of automated production from loading, processing, cleaning, testing, detection to off-line, and processes according to micron-level ultra-high precision standards. The stator and rotor assembly of the motor adopts the industry's first adaptive floating guide design, which controls the assembly accuracy within 50 microns, which is equivalent to the diameter of a hair.

"This ultra-reliable, ultra-intelligent and ultra-technological Autoneng factory will open a window to the future." said Ju Weidong, general manager of SAIC-GM Wuhan Branch.

On the day of completion, the Electra E5 trial vehicle of Buick's first Alto platform model, a large five-seater intelligent pure electric SUV, rolled off the production line at the Wuhan base. The Buick E5 is the second Alteon platform model launched by SAIC-GM after the Cadillac LYRIQ. It adopts the design concept of a new generation of brand pure electric products and is equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as a new generation of VCS intelligent cockpit and a new generation of Super Cruise super-assisted driving system. It is expected to be launched in the first quarter of next year and delivered in the first half of the year.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the establishment of SAIC-GM Wuhan Branch. During this period, the Wuhan base achieved impressive results with a cumulative production of over 3.91 million vehicles, nearly 5.52 million engines, and an output value of over 347.2 billion yuan. With the commissioning of the Wuhan Autoneng Gigafactory, SAIC-GM has further improved the strength of its local manufacturing system for the company's new energy core components. By the end of 2023, a total of four Autoneng platform models are expected to roll off the assembly line here.
